Sutton resident Katherina Griess, 95, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, NE.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating. Interment will follow at the Free German Reformed Salem Church Cemetery near Sutton, NE. Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sutton Community Home or to the family.
Katherina was born April 15, 1917, near Sutton, NE to Gustave H. and Christina (Nuss) Griess. She was baptized and confirmed in the Free German Reformed Salem Church. She attended District 66 Country School thru the 8th grade.
On April 8, 1941, she was united in marriage to Oscar R. Griess in Clay Center, NE. They then moved to Sutton and her husband worked for Bob Figi at the grocery store. Later, they purchased the Jack and Jill Store and operated it until Oscar's death on June 21, 1989. On November 23, 1999, she married Martin J. Griess, he died March 7, 2005.
She is survived by her two sons, Lorence Griess and wife Suzann of Hastings, NE; Rolland Griess and wife Joan of Sutton, NE; step-son, Morris Griess and wife Talitha of Sutton, NE; step-daughter, LeAnna Huber and husband Allen of Sutton, NE; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; two step-children; five step-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Oscar J. Griess; second husband, Martin J. Griess; one sister, Esther Korb; three brothers, Elmer Griess; Rueben Griess; Hilmer Griess and numerous other beloved family and friends.
