      OBITUARY: ESTHER HAHLE
Esther was born January 19, 1909, in a sod house on the Blue River near Stockham, Nebraska to Karl and Julia Hofmann. She grew up on a farm near Sutton, Nebraska and attended Sutton High School, took painting lessons, helped on the family farm and worked as a cook at the Silver Moon Café in Sutton. In 1931 she married Chris B. Ediger of Henderson, Nebraska. They made their home on the Ediger family farm north of Henderson. They had one daughter, Ardyce Mae. After Chris died in 1937, Esther and Ardyce briefly returned to Sutton, but missing the Ediger family and the Henderson community, they returned and lived there for the next nine years. During these years Esther sold Avon, took in teacher boarders and was active in the Bethesda Mennonite Church and in the community. She spent one year as a cook at Freeman Junior College in Freeman, South Dakota. In the summer of 1946, she met and married William A. Hahle, a farmer from Aurora, Nebraska, who had six children. Esther and Bill enjoyed nearly 25 years together and were active members of the United Lutheran Church in Hampton, the Farmers Union and the Democratic Party. They loved traveling to see the children and once went to Guyana, South America to see son Dennis and his family, who were Lutheran Missionaries in Guyana. After Bill's death in 1970, Esther left the farm and moved in to Aurora, where she lived until 1999. During these years, she remained active in her church. She was a member of the Friendship Club for over 50 years.
The last five years in Aurora, Esther would travel to Boise, Idaho to spend the winter months with her daughter Ardyce and son-in-law, Vernon Arp. In the winter of 1999, she moved into West Wind, an assisted living community in Boise, where she lived for over two years. She loved her corner room at West Wind and enjoyed displaying her paintings and cardinal collection. She enjoyed time with her daughter, family and friends. She especially treasured the grandchildren visits.
Esther loved the Lord, life, her family and many friends, flowers, letter writing and cooking. She had a remarkable memory until the age of 90. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend, who blessed and touched the lives of many and will always be remembered and missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Ardyce and husband, Vernon Arp of Boise, Idaho and six step children, Wilma and Lloyd Deeds of Sheridan, Wyoming, Lilah and James Smith of Grand Island, Nebraska, Robert Hahle of Grand Island, Nebraska, Ileen Dunnington of Ankeny, Iowa, Bill and Sondra Hahle of McCook, Nebraska, Reverend Dennis and Jeanie Hahle of Durham, North Carolina; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Chris Ediger and Bill Hahle; parents, Karl and Julia Hofmann; brothers, Hilmer, Fritz and Paul; sister, Emma Griess and son-in-law, Robert Dunnington.
A special thank you to family, extended family and many friends for their faithful love and support over the years. Many thanks to Pastor Charles Spiedel, her Physicians and the Staff of West Wind and Life Care Center of Treasure Valley for their care and support the past two and a half years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to United Lutheran Church, 812 1st Street, Hampton, Nebraska or Immanuel Lutheran Church, 707 Fort Street, Boise, Idaho.
