Gertrude Rengler, wife of William Rengler, died in her sleep on April 5, 2012. She was 98 years old, having been born in Albion, NE in 1913. She was the last living child of Nicholas and Lydia Redler, who during their lives were long time residents of Albion.
Gertrude is survived by: son, Nick Rengler; granddaughter Lydia Garrett; and great granddaughter, Emma Garrett.
Bill and Gertie lived in Spalding, NE for fifty one years (1954 to 2005). Gertie was a homemaker and operated a "Dairy Sweet" café in Spalding during the 1960's. In 2005, Bill and Gertie moved to live in their son's home in Port Orchard, WA in 2005. In 2007, as their health continued to fail, they moved into the Washington State Veteran's Home in the same city. Bill died in February, 2008; but Gertie lived on comfortably in the Veteran's Home for another four years, visited frequently by her son, granddaughter and great granddaughter.
Son Nick will bring the urns of Bill and Gertie to Spalding in the early Summer. The urns will then be buried in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Albion, NE.
