      NEWSPAPER
The following article appeared on page 5 of the Monday 11 Mar 1913 issue of the Bismarck Daily Tribune:
      "Chris Schweigert Insane"
"Chris Schweigert a carpenter living on Twelfth street became violently insane Sunday and it was with great difficulty that Sheriff Barnes and several assistants succeeded in getting him to jail. Schweigert has a brother Jacob in this city and both have been engaged on the construction of the Evangelical church on Seventh street. The unfortunate man's father who resides at Ashley came up Monday and will return home with him this afternoon."
      DEATH CERTIFICATE
According to his death certificate, Christian was an unmarried carpenter when he died. His usual residence was in Hellwig, ND, but he had been hospitalized in the State Hospital for the Insane for eleven days prior to his death. He died of acute exhaustion of mania.
      STATE HOSPITAL FOR THE INSANE
This hospital, located in Jamestown, Stutsman County, opened in 1885. It is now known as the North Dakota State Hospital. By the early 1900s its bed capacity was listed at 625. The hospital population in 1908 was 538; this had risen to 819 by 1912. At this time, the hospital was seriously overcrowded and the staff worked 60 hours a week at extremely low pay--meaning that the quality of the staff was very low.
