ObituariesClinton Age11 Feb 1905 Mrs. HUNTOON passed away at her home on Camanche avenue last evening at seven o'clock after an illness of considerable duration. She was eighty-two years of age and was one of the oldest residents in the city. She leaves one son and three daughters. The remains will be taken to Rose Hill, Ill Monday for burial. Funeral Notice Mrs. Maria HUNTOON died at the home of her son Reuben F. HUNTOON, 880 Camanche avenue, Friday evening at seven o'clock, after an illness which came slowly but almost imperceptibly with advancing years. The decedent was born in Leicestershire, England, in 1823, and came with her parents to American and to Chicago in the year 1834, the family being one of the pioneer residents of that city. The family moved to Evanston in 1840 and had resided in that vicinity since that time, being closely identified with the early history of Evanston as well as that of Chicago. During the past few years Mrs. HUNTOON had made her home with her children, residing in Clinton with her son Reuben F. HUNTOON for the past eighteen months. During her short residence here she became endeared to all who were privileged to know her, and they will sincerely mourn with the family, in the passing onward of this beautiful character. Mrs. HUNTOON is survived by five children: Mrs. P. M. WELLER, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Charles AIKEN, Evanston, Ill.; R. F. HUNTOON of this city; Mrs. Albert SCOTT of Aurora, Ill.; and Frank L. HUNTOON of East St. Louis. Funeral services will be held at the home of R. F. HUNTOON, 880 Camanche avenue, this afternoon at two to Rose Hill, Chicago, tomorrow for interment, which will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. 14 Feb 1905 Services for the late Mrs. Maria HUNTOON were held at the home of her son, R. F. HUNTOON, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made at Rose Hill this afternoon at 2 o'clock, the family accompanied the remains to Chicago. Evanston NewsMrs. Maria Huntoon, who had been a resident of Evanston since 1840, died Friday, Feb. 10, at Clinton, Ia. She was the widow of the late George M. Huntoon and mother of Mrs. Charles Aiken, 1559 Maple avenue, with whom she resided most of the time for many years.The funeral was held Sunday at Clinton, and the remains were interred at Rosehill last Tuesday. Rev. F.S. Rockwell of Emmanuel Methodist Church officiating.Maria Reed was born in England in 1822. Her father died when she was very young and her mother came to this country with her children in 1824 and settled in Buffalo, NY. In 1840 the family moved to Evanston. Several years later she married George M. Huntoon, and their home was in a farmhouse which stood on the west side of Ridge avenue, north of Washington Street.Both Mr. and Mrs. Huntoon were closely identified with the early history of this city. Mr. Huntoon built one of the first hotels in Evanston. It was situated on the south side of Davis street, west of the Chicago and Northwester railway, and this hotel was occupied by the family for a number of years. Mrs. Huntoon was the sister of Samuel Reed, who is referred to in the history of Evanston as the "pathfinder" or roadmaster of this region, as the first road across the swamp was built at Rosehill by him. His log house was near the old Huntoon farm.Mrs Huntoon's husband died twenty years ago. She leaves five children--Mrs. Charles Aiken, Mrs. P.M. Weller of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Martha Scott of Aurora, Ill., Frank Huntoon of East St. Louis and R.F. Huntoon of Clinton, Ia., at whose home she was visiting when the end came.
