Lydia Brown, 82, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Regional West Medical Center. Her funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 19, at The Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Doug Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Lydia was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Sutton, to William F.C. and Rachel (Ullmann) Griess. She grew up in Sutton and received her education there. In 1939, she moved with her family to Bridgeport, where she worked at the public library, before moving to Scottsbluff. She worked at Swift and Company before marrying Leo F. Brown on Jan. 6, 1946, at Scottsbluff. She worked for J.C. Penney Company and at the United Telephone Company, both in Scottsbluff, before assisting her husband managing the V.F.W. Club for many years before her retirement in 1982. After retiring, she was a caregiver for many of her family and close friends.
Lydia was a member of the Zion Evangelical Church, the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Peggy Brown of Gering; grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Brent Fulk of Westminster, Colo., Greg Brown of Scottsbluff, Broc Brown and his friend Danielle Preston, both of Lincoln, and Tiffany Brown of Gering; great-granddaughter Kaylee Fulk of Westminster; brothers, Waldine and his wife Darlene Griess of Scottsbluff, Carl and his wife Ann Griess of Aurora, Colo., and Don Griess of Arvada, Colo.; sisters, Clarissa and her husband William Westervelt of San Diego, Calif., Katherina Hardt of Scottsbluff, Suzanne and her husband Don Roquet of Greeley, Anna Smith of Green Valley, Ariz., and Norma and her husband Robert Bruce of Arvada; and special friend, Gene Warren of Scottsbluff.
Her parents; her husband; and brothers, Alfred, Armin, Michael and Herbert preceded her in death.
