By 1870, Melcena had married and moved from Missouri to California. She and her husband and four-year-old sdaughter were living in Washington, Alameda, California; also in their household were: William and Sarah (Moody) Cochran and their son. Melcena was a first cousin to Emily Lynn, who married Sarahâ„¢s first cousin, George Washington Moody. In addition, Andrew and Seralda (Lynn) Whisman (also a first cousin of Melcenaâ„¢s) were their neighbors in Alameda County in 1870. By 1900, they had moved to Hollister, San Benito, California, where they were farming. Their two youngest children were living with them.
