Spokesman-Review, Nov 19, 2006:
SYRING, Viola R. (Age 82) entered into the arms of the Lord, her Savior, on the 16th of November, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 19, 1924 in Marlin, WA to Gustave and Emma Zimbelman. She and her husband Bob celebrated 60 years of marriage in August, 2006. Vi loved the great outdoors camping with the family and traveling with the motor home. Vi loved square and round dancing belonging to the Whirlaway Square Dance Club and the Wagaround Round Dance Club in Spokane and numerous other groups in Arizona. Vi and Bob spent 15 or so years wintering in Arizona and have many long lasting memories of friends there. She and Bob enjoyed the many years of hiking many miles of trails in Arizona and Utah as well as many trails in National Parks. Her immediate family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved working with her hands making afghans for grandchildren, ceramics and tole painting. She had quite the green thumb with house plants and loved to look for wildflowers, knowing the name of as many as she could. Vi was a beautiful piano player. She was a big fan of Gonzaga basketball, Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and shared her love of this with her daughters and granddaughters. The family loved to play pinochle, dominoes and many other games. Mom will always be mom
but we were fortunate that she was also our friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Leo and Melvin Zimbelman and sister Ione Zeiler. Vi is survived by her husband Robert; daughters Rebecca (Tom) Lucas, Marilyn Nelson, Roberta (Les) Wakeley, all of Spokane, WA; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers Donald Zimbelman, Othello, WA, Herbert and Robert Zimbelman, both of Odessa, WA; two sisters Florence Schlimmer, Odessa, WA, Rhea Strate, Spokane, WA; sister-in-law Shirley Zimbelman, Almira, WA; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S Arthur, Spokane, WA 99210-2215 or Shiloh Hills Fellowship, 207 E Lincoln Road, Spokane, WA 99208. We thank Hospice of Spokane for their love and support while keeping her at home with her family until the time of her death.
