YAKIMA - Longtime Yakima resident, Eva Elizabeth Hofferber, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the age of 94 at the Lola Kay Adult Family Home.
She was born October 19, 1912 in Johnstown, CO, 1 of 8 siblings born to Fred and Elizabeth (Ostwald) Wiegel. Eva married Lennert Hofferber on February 14, 1932 in Keenesburg, CO. The couple was blessed with three daughters while in Colorado. Velma, Dorothy and Shirley. They then moved to Washington in 1941 and settled in Vancouver. During WWII, they both worked for Kaiser Ship Yards. After the war, the family moved to the lower Yakima Valley. There they were blessed with their fourth child, a son, Leonard. They moved o Grandview and farmed for three years. Their next move was to Union Gap and owned the Evergreen Motel for two years. She took care of the motel while he went into the construction business. Then they bought a small orchard in West Valley for four years. He managed the orchard and she worked for Safeway and then Cahoon's Super Giant for 10 years as head checker and then Mayfair Market as checker and bookkeeper. They both retired and loved traveling, fishing, camping and playing cards. She also enjoyed crocheting, walking and reading. She was an avid Seattle Seahawk, Seattle Mariners and Denver Bronco fan. Through Eva's life, she was always hard working and spiritual. She loved her family dearly and hosted many holiday and family gatherings.
Eva is survived by two daughters, Dorothy (Leon) Humbyrd of Kennewick and Shirley (Jim) McHugh of Yakima and son, Leonard (Karen) Hofferber of Portland, OR; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bob Wiegel of Denver, CO.

      ****************
Don't grieve for me; for now I'm free, I am following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call; I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks undone must stay that way. I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with time of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, good friends, good times a loved one touched. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
