TIPTON — Wilbur F. Knipp, 93, of Tipton, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Tipton Oak Manor.
He was born May 31, 1920 in Tipton, MO, son of the late Albert Knipp, Sr. and Nora Schreck Knipp. He attended and graduated from St. Andrew School. He was married to Edna Wirths on June 11, 1941 at St. Andrew Church, where he was a lifelong member. He farmed most of his life with two of his brothers, and also owned Knipp Motor Parts Store. He was president of MFA Elevator in Tipton. He served on the board of directors of MFA Oil for many years, and was active in the Knights of Columbus and Chamber of Commerce. After retiring, he and his wife traveled a lot in their motor home and by air. He also did a lot of woodworking for the school and church and donated his flag cases to deceased veteran's families. He shared his woodworking talents with several generations of his family, and showed his love of history through sharing his stories with his family.
He is survived by one son — Arnold (Ruth) Knipp of Tipton; three daughters — Judy (Ron) Orscheln of Olathe, KS; Norma (Gary) Allee of Columbia; Linda (Roy) Knipp of Tipton; 11 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edna; three brothers — Ernest, Albert, Jr. and Eugene; and one sister — Ruth.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tipton, with burial in the church cemetery.
A rosary will be said at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, March 11 at the church, with visitation to follow until 7:00 PM.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Andrew Cemetery, St. Andrew School Foundation, or Hospice Compassus.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton.
