  www.findagrave.com: www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=35109918 Although cheered by the prospect of recovering from his illness and after eating a hearty breakfast, Henry Gehring died at his home, northeast of Platte Center, died at 8 o'clock Saturday morning. The immediate cause of death was appoplexy. His failing health dates back two years. During the course of his illness he submitted to many operations, the first for hernia and the last for a tumorous growth. He was bedridden since last January, and gradually grew weaker, although lately he seemed to revive at times and give hopes of recovery. His sickness was of long duration, and he suffered intensily. Though he bore his suffering patiently and with resignation. Mr. Gehring was born in Edenkoben,Bavaria,Germany and came too the U.S. with his parents in May, 1865. He first settled at Hollowayville, Illinois where he married Miss Phillipine Genzlinger on August 18,1870. In 1888 he moved to Platte county and settled on the farm which he occupied until his death. Mr. Gehring was a quiet, unassuming man who had the respect and esteem of the community. He was a devout and earnest worker in the church and practiced his religion by leading a strictly honest, upright and useful life, and by rearing his children to become good and useful members of the community. He was always helpful to those in need. He was a hard worker and his habits were frugal, which accounts for the substantial fortune which he leaves to those who survive him. Services were conducted by Rev. E. Walther at the German United Evangelical Church with John Mark, W. Kramer, Bernhard Janssen, Geo. Scheidel Sr., Peter Zumbrunn and Otto Kallweit serving as pallbearers. The funeral was one of the largest ever held at that locality.
