The Sacramento Bee, CA, Apr. 25, 2007 —
Amelia Sayler passed away on April 17, 2007 at the Tahoe Extended Care Center in Truckee, Calif. She was 99½ and one of the oldest Truckee residents.
Amelia was born Dec. 4, 1907 in Wishek, to George and Dorthea Rath.
She married Adolph Sayler on Nov. 9, 1928, and they moved to Sacramento, Calif., in 1929. Adolph was a barber in Sacramento for his entire career, and passed away in 1985. Amelia (known as Millie) was a professional seamstress who worked out of her home and raised two sons.
Gordon Sayler and his wife, Trudy, live in Issaquah, Wash., and Norman Sayler lives at Donner Summit in California. There are four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Millie was also blessed with many nieces and nephews.
After Millie's husband passed away in 1985, She moved up to Donner Ski Ranch to be near Norm and his family and became well known for skiing the first time at 80 years of age. Millie flew to Seattle to visit her son, Gordon, and family at 98 years of age. She had a great sense of humor, loved her grandchildren, and will be missed by all family members and the many friends she made wherever she lived. She was a long time member of St Luke's Lutheran Church, having become a member in 1934.
Millie had three sisters and five brothers. All are deceased but one sister, Eva Ketterling, who lives in Wishek.
A memorial service to celebrate Millie's long life was held April 28 at Sacramento Memorial Lawn Garden in Sacramento, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials, in memory of Millie Sayler, be sent to Tahoe Extended Care Center, PO Box 759, Truckee, CA 96160.
