Gottfried Schlenker, 92, Gackle, died Tuesday, March 6, 1990 at his home in Gackle. Funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 1990 in the United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Gackle with Pastor Scott Curfman officiating.
Gottfried Schlenker was born October 28, 1897 in Kloestitz, South Russia to John and Christina (Schlag) Schlenker Sr. In 1902 he came to the United States with his parents and settled on a farm east of Kulm in LaMoure County for two years. In 1904 they moved to a farm homestead four miles southwest of Gackle in Neudorf Township in Logan County. He received his elementary education in the local rural schools and grew to manhood while working on the family farm.
On November 24, 1925 he married Olga Gomke at Napoleon. They lived southwest of Gackle where they farmed until 1972 when they moved into Gackle for their retirement. His wife died August 19, 1989.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Schlenker, Gackle; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Irene) Wanzek and Mrs. Paul (Marvel) Haag, both of Fargo; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mathilda Dockter, Streeter; and two brothers, Ted and Paul Schlenker, both of Gackle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and seven brothers and sisters.
Interment was made in the Gackle Cemetery at Gackle. Haut Funeral Homes in Gackle was in charge of arrangements.
