"Auto Injuries Are Fatal To Marie Hempel
Services for Mrs. Marie Hempel of Seattle, former resident of the Meridian district east of kent, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident in Seattle Wednesday night, were conducted, saturday aftrenoon at three o'clock, in the chapel of the Kent Funeral Home with Elder C. A. Seriver of Seattle, officiating.
Mrs. Hempel was injured when an automobile driven by her son, Melvin N. Hempel, collided on a Seattle street with a pickup truck driven by Leonard M. Langen of Kenmore. She was taken to Harborview County Hospital for treatment but succumbed a few hours later early Thursday morning. Melvin Hempel was treated at the same hospital for minor injuries.
Mrs. Hempel was widely-known in the Kent community, having lived in the Meridian district for 22 years before moving to Seattle in 1909 where she had since made her home. She lived at 1512 15th Ave. S.W.
Sixty-four years of age, Mrs. Hempel was born in Germany on September 26, 1877. She had lived in the United States 45 years.
Surviving her are four sons, Melvin of Seattle, Harry W. of Vancouver, Washington, Raymond H. of Fall City, Washington, and Arthur E. in the British West Indies; a daughter, Mrs. Edna Bornstein of Seattle; and nine grandchildren."
