Jonas Martin Rominger was the second of six known children of Benjamin Rominger (1792-1866) and Elizabeth Schor (Shore) Rominger (1795-1855), who married 13 Jan 1819 at Salem, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. The parents and their five living children moved from North Carolina to Columbus Township, Bartholomew County, Indiana in April, 1838.
Jonas married his first cousin, Caroline Rebecca Rominger (1816-1863) on 27 Jul 1847 at Bartholomew County, Indiana. Jonas and Caroline were the parents of two known children, a boy and a girl, both of whom lived to maturity. After Caroline died, Jonas remarried to the widow, Mrs. Sarah (or was Mary her birth name, and Sarah a nickname?) Jones Stewart (1825-1901) on 10 Nov 1864 at Bartholomew County, Indiana. Sarah had previously been married to Matthew Stewart (c1813-1855) on 04 Dec 1848 at Franklin County, Indiana. Sarah brought two sons into the Rominger family, Marion Stewart (b. 1852) and Benjamin Stewart (b. 1854), when they married. Jonas and Sarah were the parents of two known children, a girl and a boy, one of whom lived to maturity.
From 1850 to 1900 Jonas was listed as a farmer, living at Haw Creek Township, Hope Post Office, Bartholomew County, Indiana.
We are fortunate to have links to Jonas' parents, both of his wives and all four of his children, as included below.
