Son of Hugh Evans and Adelaide (Mead) Evans. Brother of Mary (Evans) Clark.
George Evans, the son of HP Evans of Logan Twp, who had been cutting wood down on the Solomon River near Tanquery's mill, taking his dinner along with him and returning in the evening, did not appear home at the usual time on Wednesday. His parents, becoming alarmed, initiated a search for him, and found where he had eaten dinner. Searching further, they found evidence that he had afterwards gone skating and following the marks of the skates, they came to the place where he had broken through the ice, everything going to show that he had made efforts to draw himself out of the water, but marks on the ice around the edges of the hole showed his attempt had proved unvailing. After grappling for some time, the body was recovered. The young man was eighteen years of age and much sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents in the sudden and lamentable cutting off of a bright young life.
