Superior resident Kenneth M Kent, 87, died Sunday at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital. Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Red Cloud. The Revs Richard and Dorthea Fairbanks officiated. Burial was in the Red Cloud Cemetery.
He was born south of Red Cloud March 1, 1914 to Roy W and Ethel Mae (Throckmorton) Kent. He graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1930. On Dec 1, 1934 he married Helen Schultz. He joined the Soil Conservation Service in 1935. He received a civil engineering degree in 1938. He served three years with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was an executive officer in the Navy's Civil Engineering Officers School at Port Hueneme, Calif., during the Korean War. He retired from the Soil Conservation Service in 1973 and from the Navy in 1974. His wife died Jan 7, 1995. He moved to Red Cloud in 1974 and then to Superior in 1998.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Soil Conservation Society of America, Society of Professional Engineers of Nebraska and the District of Columbia, the Navy's Retired Officers Association, the American Legion, Charity Lodge A.F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite, Shrine and Fraternal Order of Elks.
Survivors include one son, Douglas, Stillwater, Okla; one brother, Frank, Red Cloud, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
