Mr. Jerke was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Jamestown, the son of Christ and Alvina (Suess) Jerke. He lived on a farm near Cleveland, N.D., until he was five years old, when the family moved to a farm near Gackle. He attended Gackle School and graduated from Gackle High School. He attended a business college in Fargo, N.D. He enjoyed driving school bus, tour buses and appointment driving for Gackle Care Center. He owned and operated a trucking business and farmed with his father.
He married Ann Henke on Jan. 8, 1996, at Aberdeen, S.D. They lived on the farm north of Gackle. He was a member of Gackle United Church of Christ and served on the church board. He also served on the township board. He enjoyed reading, gardening, music and roundtable coffee time.
He is survived by his wife; father, Gackle; a sister, Arlene Clifton, Ownings Mills, Md.; three stepdaughters, Leslie Dockter, New Rockford, N.D., Camille Weixel, Eau Claire, Wis., and Amy (Shaun) Duffield, Lutz, Fla.; two grandchildren; and special friends Chance and Harlie Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his mother; a brother, Lloyd; and a brother-in-law, Ray Clifton.
Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, First United Church of Christ, Gackle, with the Rev. Gordon Moen officiating.

Raymond Wentz, 91, Streeter, ND died Early Thursday morning February 12, 2015 at the Napoleon Care Center in Napoleon, ND.
Raymond Wentz was born June 25, 1923 at Streeter, ND, the son of George Wentz and Margaret (Graf) Wentz. He attended the Streeter Public School, went through 2 years of high school.
He went to the CCC for a year. He was in charge of the camp, which closed because war broke out.
He and Delores Fischer were married January 1, 1942 at Vancouver, WA. He was drafted into the US Army in February 1942. He went to Airplane Mechanics School for 6 months in Amarillo, TX. He then was stationed at Myrtle Beach, SC as an Airplane Mechanic. Ray was shipped to London, England for 6 months to be a German translator. He was discharged February 16, 1946 with the rank of CPL and returned to North Dakota.
They moved to Danzig and made their home on a farm for a year and then went back to Streeter and farmed in the area.
He and Lois Burleson were married in 1985 and continued to live in Streeter where he worked for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in the Streeter-Medina area. In 2004 they moved to Jamestown.
He was a lifetime member of the Streeter American Legion Post #265.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; four sons, Ray, Kenneth, Curtiss and Steven Wentz; one daughter, Maxine Lloyd; one stepson, Lynn Burleson, one stepdaughter, Jolene Weick; 10 grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, and a sister, Etta Feigert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Bonnie, a grandson, Cody, seven brothers, Albert, Emil, LeRoy, Arthur, Clarence, Ernest, Ed and five sisters, Martha, Lydia, Ione, Viola and Marie.

Merlyn O. Gunsch passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 12, 2017 at EMVH. Cause of death was complications due to a brain aneurysm and subsequent strokes.
Merlyn was born August 6, 1936 in Bismarck, ND the first of 3 children born to Otto & Rose Marie (Wentz) Gunsch. He attended elementary and secondary schools in Elgin, ND.
Merlyn served 4 years in the United States Navy. He attended the College of Pharmacy at North Dakota State University and Graduate School in Chemistry at Montana State University. Dad owned and operated the Rexall Drug Store in Malta, MT and the Seeley Lake Pharmacy in Seeley Lake, MT. He then went to work for the Indian Health Service from which he retired in June 2000. Dad had a great love of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, back packing and camping, and he passed this love on to his kids.
Merlyn always said that of all his experiences, military service was his greatest and best. He was a very proud veteran. He will be buried in the Veterans Section of the Lewistown City Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Fergus Post #16 American Legion Honor Guard.
Merlyn is survived by his 4 children, Robert (Tami) Gunsch of Circle, MT; Gretchen (Harve) Kimm of Manhattan, MT; William (Tara) Gunsch of Belgrade, MT; David (Sheryl) Gunsch of E. Helena, MT; a brother, Richard (Marilyn) Gunsch of Bismarck, ND; a sister, Kathy Decker of Laguna Beach, CA; 8 grandchildren, Courtney (Chad), Anthony, Stephanie (Brandon), Reece, Bridger (Johna), Madison, Nicholas & Hunter; 7 great-grandchildren, Bethany, Tucker, Braelynn, Brantley, Audrey, Blaiz & Maggie; his “favorite” niece, Dayna (Andrew Maltin) Decker; his god-daughter, Lori; and nephews, Dan, Merle and Michael. He loved all of you very much.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Gunsch; his mother, Rose Marie (Wentz) Gunsch; several uncles and aunts; and niece, Sandra.

Marie Wentz was born June 16, 1912, in Streeter to George and Margaretha (Graff) Wentz. She attended school in Streeter. Marie married Otto Gunsch September 5, 1935 in Streeter. They moved to Dickinson in 1955 and opened Service Drug. Otto died in 1964. She was a member of First Congregational-United Church of Christ, Eastern Star and American Legion Auxillary. Marie enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, knitting, fishing, playing cards and bingo.

Emil Schwartzwalter, 81, Fargo, ND, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Rosewood Nursing Home, Fargo.
Mr. Schwartzwalter was born Dec. 20, 1919, on the family farm six miles southwest of Streeter, N.D., the son of John J. Jr. and Matilda (Pfiefle) Schwartzwalter. He attended the rural school, receiving his elementary education. He attended the Steele (N.D.) High School and later the Cowiche High School, Washington. He later was a student at Music High School, Sacramento, Calif.
He entered the U.S. Army Jan. 24, 1942, and served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He was discharged Oct. 29, 1945, with the rank of technical sergeant. He returned to Streeter.
He married Ione Wentz July 28, 1946, at Steele. They lived and farmed five miles west of Streeter. In 1963, they moved to Steele, where he operated the Crown Lanes Bowling Alley. In 1967, they moved to Fargo, where he owned and operated the Norge Village Laundromat. In 1970, he operated Fargo's Finest Coin Operated Laundry. In 1982, he sold the laundry business. In 1983, they moved to Tower City, N.D., where he bought the Tower Motel. In 1988, he sold the motel and returned to Fargo for retirement.
In April, 1993, he entered Rosewood Nursing Home, Fargo. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Fargo, Melvin Bender American Legion Post #265, Streeter, V.F.W. Post #7564, West Fargo and 62nd Armored Field Artillery.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Gregory (Linda), Moorhead, Minn.; four daughters, Myra (Lynn) McCarty, Maxbass, N.D., Merna (Jim) Bredwick, Arnegard, N.D., Melanie (Jon) Loy, West Fargo, N.D., and Mileta (David) Hildahl, Clarkfield, Minn.; two sisters, Lena Schuler, Streeter, and Ella Smith, Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister.

Ione E. (Wentz) Schwartzwalter, 88, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Clarkfield Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 7 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Streeter, North Dakota, officiated by Pastor Darwin Kopfmann. Interment was at Friedens Cemetery in rural Streeter, North Dakota.
Ione was born December 18, 1921, in Streeter, North Dakota to George and Margaretha (Graf) Wentz. She attended school in Streeter and graduated in 1940. In the fall of 1940, she started work at the Bank of Steele in Steele, North Dakota.
She married Emil Schwartzwalter July 28, 1946 at Steele. They lived and farmed five miles west of Streeter. In 1963, they moved to Steele where Ione again worked at the bank. In 1967, they moved to Fargo where she helped her husband operate the Norge Laundry and Dry Cleaning Village. In 1975, she worked at the South Fargo Ben Franklin Store as an assistant manager until the store closed in 1997. In August 2006, she moved to Arnegard, North Dakota to live with her daughter Merna, (Jim) Bredwick. She moved to the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield in April of 2010 due to ill health.
Ione was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fargo. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #265 in Streeter and served as its first president. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Streeter Happy Homemakers Club.
Ione is survived by son Gregory (Linda) Schwartzwalter of Moorhead; four daughters: Myra (Lynn) McCarty, Maxbass, North Dakota; Merna (Jim) Bredwick, Arnegard, North Dakota; Melanie (Jon) Loy Worthington; Melita (David) Hildahl, Clarkfield; sister LoEtta Feigert, Bismarck, North Dakota; brothers Ed (Bev) Wentz, Sun City, Arizona; Ray (Lois) Wentz, Jamestown, North Dakota; LeRoy (Velma) Wentz of Lemmon, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; Stephanie (Jon) Gilbraith, Audrey and Nathan, Glenburn, North Dakota; Robert Cox, Jamestown, North Dakota; Chelsea, Watford City, North Dakota; Greta (Kentucky) Sago, Kaden, Rylan, Trevin, Colson, Aubryn, Sidney, Montana; Clay and Colby Schwartzwalter, Moorhead; Phillip (Maari) Loy, Fargo, North Dakota; Eric and Heather Loy, Worthington; Jenna and Spencer Hildahl, Clarkfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Martha M. George, 103, Bismarck, died Dec. 30, 2009, at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 2, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Walter Schott officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will start at 10 a.m. today until the time of service at Eastgate Funeral Service.
Martha M. Wentz was born March 8, 1906, in Streeter, to George and Margaretha (Graf) Wentz. She attended school in Streeter. On Oct. 30, 1930, she and Harry George were married in the E.U.B. Church at Streeter. Martha and Harry lived in Steele from 1930 until 1968, where they worked together at the Bank of Steele until they retired and sold the bank. Following retirement, they moved to Bismarck. Martha was very active in her church teaching Sunday school and directing choir. She served in many civic capacities including treasurer of the city of Steele for 14 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Martha is survived by her brothers and sisters, Ed (Bev) Wentz, Sun City, Ariz., Ione Schwartzwalter, Arnegard, Ray (Lois) Wentz, Jamestown, LeRoy (Velma) Wentz, Lemmon, S.D., and LoEtta Feigert, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
The family of Martha would like to thank everyone who offered condolences and prayers. We especially want to thank the wonderful staff at St. Vincent's Care Center for the loving care they bestowed upon Martha.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to St. Vincent's Care Center, 1021 North 26th Street, Bismarck, N.D. 58501, in appreciation for their care of Martha.

LoEtta was born May 28, 1930, to George and Margaretha Wentz in Streeter, ND. She graduated from Streeter High School in 1948. Etta married Louie Feigert on November 12, 1948, in Jamestown. The couple had three children.
Etta is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Steven) Bensen, Mayville, ND, and Marsha Decker, Phoenix, AZ; her three grandchildren, Lauri (Danny) Savoie, Park Rapids, MN, Andrea Bensen, Grand Forks, ND, and Jeremy (Katie) Bensen, Hugo, MN; and four great-grandchildren, Julia, Joshua, Aria, and Levi.

Ludwig "Louie" Feigert, 76, Bismarck, died Jan. 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating.
Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Louie Feigert was born Sept. 23, 1924, at Streeter, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Hottman) Feigert. He was raised and educated in Streeter, graduating in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, served in the South Pacific Theatre, and held the rank of sergeant prior to his honorable discharge in 1946. Following military service, he worked at a lumber mill, on a construction crew and the Northern Pacific Railroad. He married Etta Wentz on Nov. 12, 1948, in Jamestown. They moved to Washington, where Louie worked at Boeing Aircraft. They returned to Jamestown, where Louie attended Jamestown College. He graduated with a business administration degree in 1954. Following graduation, he accepted a teaching position at Hebron. From 1955 to 1968, he was the assistant cashier at the Bank of Steele. He held positions as administrator at the Heartview Foundation and Golden Valley County Hospital. He traveled as a salesman for several companies from 1974 to 1986. Following retirement, he worked as the parking lot attendant at St. Alexius Medical Center.
Louie is survived by his wife, Etta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah and Steven Bensen, Mayville, and Marsha Decker, Chandler, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Lauri, Andrea and Jeremy Bensen; one great-granddaughter, Julia; three brothers, Robert, Jamestown, and Gottlieb and Clarence, both of Fargo; three sisters, Elizabeth Hilsendeger, Bismarck, Lydia Gensburg, Napoleon, and Mathilda Washburn, Fairchild, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents; one son, Mark; five brothers; and two sisters preceded him in death.

Martha Ackerman, 86, Wishek, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1988, at her home in Wishek.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. in the United Church of Christ in Wishek with Rev. Herbert Zimmerman officiating.
Martha Ackerman was born Dec. 27, 1901, in Logan County to Fred and Christina (Werner) Sayler. She was born on the Sayler homestead northwest of Wishek where she also attended rural elementary school. She lived with her family, helping on the farm until her marriage to Edward Ackerman on Dec. 18, 1923, in Napoleon. After their marriage they resided on the Ackerman homestead for two years. They then built a new farmstead ½-mile from the Ackerman homestead. In 1957, they retired and moved into the city of Wishek. Mr. Ackerman died on Nov. 1, 1964.
Martha was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Martha Aid in Wishek. Her hobbies included gardening and crocheting.
Survivors include four sons, Elmer Ackerman of Garland, Texas, Harold Ackerman and Donald Ackerman, both of Dickinson, and Edward Ackerman of Wishek; a daughter Ida Quatier of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ida Klein of Sacramento, Calif., and Bertha Reiger of Wishek.
She was preceded in death by her son Oscar (died in infancy), a grandson, a great-grandson, seven brothers and six sisters.
Organist at the service was Georgine Sayler. Special music was provided by Rev. and Mrs. George Rueb. Pallbearers were Michael Ackerman, Alan Ackerman, Ronald Ackerman, Todd Quatier, Ron Gall and Paul Ackerman.
Burial was in the Wishek City Cemetery under the direction of Nickisch Funeral Home, Wishek.

SPIRIT of WISHECK, 1948, Jubilee Book -
After Martha and Edward married in 1923 they built a farm home near the family farm where Edward was born and raised, and spent all of their farming years on this place.
In 1957 they retired and moved into Wishek leaving the farming operation to their son Edward.
After a lingering illness Edward died on the 1 Nov 1964. He was well-known for being easygoing and very good-natured by all who knew him. Martha died on the 14 Dec 1988.

Gerald „Jerry“ James Grenz, 50, Gackle N.D., starb am Sonntag, dem 9. August 1998, bei einem Farmunfall in Stutsman County.
Herr Grenz wurde am 23. Februar 1948 in Jamestown als Sohn von Alvin und Magdalena (Kirvida) Grenz geboren. Er besuchte die Gackle Public School in Gackle und machte 1966 seinen Abschluss. Er besuchte die Minot (ND) State University und machte 1971 seinen Abschluss. Er arbeitete viele Jahre für MDU in Jamestown. Er heiratete Myra Kay Suko am 31. Juli 1976 in Gackle. Er arbeitete in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren für verschiedene Bauunternehmen in Fargo und Wahpeton, N.D., darunter Klug & Smith. Er half beim Ausbau von Aufzügen in Spirtwood, N.D. und Wahpeton. Er hat sein ganzes Leben lang Landwirtschaft betrieben. Er wurde in der Grace Baptist Church getauft. Er besuchte die Ebenzer United Methodist Church, Streeter, N.D., wo er als Kirchendiener tätig war. Er genoss es, die Bibel zu lesen, mit Holz zu arbeiten, zu angeln, zu reisen, Geländefahrzeuge zu fahren, seine Hunde zu haben und sich in der Natur aufzuhalten.
Er hinterlässt seine Frau; zwei Töchter, Hannah Faith Grenz, Edwards, Air Force Base, Kalifornien, und Miriam Joy Grenz, Rapid City, S.D.; ein Sohn Sacharja Hiob, Gackle; und Eltern, Gackle.
Sein Bruder Alvin Jr. starb im Februar 1971.

Herr Larenz Schreader [Lorenz Schroeder] starb am Montagmorgen um 3 Uhr im Haus seines Sohnes Jacob in der Nähe dieser Stadt nach nur kurzer Krankheit, die unmittelbare Todesursache war Altersschwäche. Die Beerdigung fand im Deutschen statt
Evangelische Kirche Mittwochnachmittag, 23. Dezember, 1 Uhr. Die Gottesdienste wurden von Pfarrer Finkbein [Finkbeiner] durchgeführt, die Beisetzung erfolgte auf dem Evangelischen Friedhof. Der Verstorbene wurde am 17. Februar 1832 in Südrussland geboren, nachdem er erwachsen geworden war, war er mit Frau Larenz Schreador verheiratet, und als Ergebnis dieser Verbindung wurden sechs Kinder geboren, von denen sechs noch leben, um seinen Verlust zu betrauern.
Die Mutter ist vor einigen Jahren verstorben. Der verstorbene Herr Schreader lebte die letzten sechs Jahre mit seinem Sohn Jacob hier bei Gackle.
Nach einem langen arbeitsreichen und nützlichen Leben starb er, wie er geehrt, vertraut und geliebt gelebt hatte.
Er errichtete sein eigenes Denkmal, während er in den Herzen aller lebte, die ihn kannten. Sein Leben war vollendet in getaner Arbeit, und gut gemacht stellt Vollendung dar.
Sein christliches Leben liest sich wie ein offenes Kapitel und trotz all der Wechselfälle und Leiden, denen er begegnete, wankte sein Glaube an seinen Meister nie.
Er ist von hier fortgegangen, und die Spätherbstblätter werden auf ein weiteres Grab fallen, das alles, was von einem wahren und guten Mann sterblich ist, vor unseren Augen verbirgt.
