    œPioneer Woman Called to Rest
    Passing of Mrs. Mary A. Miller at Her Residence Here on Saturday Night Came to This State Across the Plains In 1850 and Was Greatly Beloved For Her Many Deeds of Kindness.
    A pioneer woman of Sonoma county and of California crossed the great divide on Saturday night when at twenty minutes after eleven o'clock Mrs. Mary Ann Miller was called to rest. The death occurred at her residence on B Street. Her passing followed a serious illness of five weeks and previous to that she had been in failing health. The death of Mrs. Miller removes a woman who was widely known and universally respected. She was one of a kind who went about doing good and whose earnest Christian character stood out prominently in her everyday life. She loved to be of assistance to others and her deeds of kindness were boundless. Consequently she drew around a large circle of friends who recognized her worth and her loyalty to the right. She was an earnest and devoted member of the First Christian
    Church of this city.
    Mrs. Miller crossed the plains to this state from her native state of Missouri in the year 1850 in company with her father and brothers and a large party of pioneers, many of whom afterwards became prominent in the affairs of this state. She was one of the last survivors. Mrs. Miller was born in Jackson County, Missouri, February 14, 1835. She was married to the late Thomas B. Miller, himself a pioneer of '49, on
    April 17, 1853. After a brief residence near Tomales, Mr. and Mrs. Miller moved to a large farm four miles from Healdsburg on Russian river in 1855. They lived on the farm until 1874 when they moved to
    Santa Rosa. The deceased also resided on the Miller farm on Santa Rosa Creek but for the past thirty years she had resided almost continually in Santa Rosa.
    The deceased leaves several children. They are James P. Miller of Russian River; Mrs. E. H. Parnell; T. Boone Miller of Russian River; Mrs. S. W. Purrington of Mount Olivet; Mrs. Alex Ragle of Sebastopol;
    Mrs. S. E. Ballard of San Jose; Miss Josephine Miller of Santa Rosa; Mrs. Frank B. Chenoweth of San Francisco. The funeral arrangement will be announced later.

    Mary heiratete Miller, Thomas Bell am 17 Apr 1853 in , Marin County, California, USA. Thomas (Sohn von Miller, James Pierce und Bell, Charlotte Gibbons) wurde geboren am 31 Dez 1826 in , Rhea County, Tennessee, USA; gestorben am 26 Jan 1892 in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California, USA. John Haun, a German, was among he first wave of pioneers of the great western expansion, arriving in 1799 and settling nearby the future village of La Charrette. In 1807 a schoolhouse was erected and John Haun, as well as new village landholders Bryan and Callaway, enrolled their children. However, children of the original French families of La Charrette Village would not attend. At the time of its founding, La Charrette Village School Number 1 was the westernmost school in existence on the Missouri frontier.
    He applied for a land grant in 1799 (patented Dec. 9, 1833 - Survey #288). There are records at the Missouri State Historical Lib. (in Columbia) in the Pa. Archives of Hauns coming to the U.S. on the Ship Neptune on 9/30/1754 from Rotterdam. They were apparently German.
    In 1817, he is enumerated in the Femme Osage census, along with his sons Jacob, Peter and John Jr. Also enumerated are the Boone, Bryan and Callaway families and that of Joseph Moody.
    In the 1830 Montgomery County, Missouri, census on the same page are listed: John Haun, James Lynn, Daniel Lynn, James Moody, Peter Haun, Jacob Haun, John Moody; on the following page Isaac Lynn is listed.
