On 30 March, 1966 Professor Igor Pleve emailed the following: ". . . .the roots of Catherina Helfenbein begin from Johannes Helfenbein, born in 1735 and Susanna, born in 1736. They came to Russia on the ship "Citadel" on 13.09.1766 and settled firstly in the Stephan colony. We can say exactly that this family left the Stephan
colony for another one before 1788 and Catherina herself was born in some other colony. If we can find it out we shall tell you additionally. . . . . Hope that you are alright, Igor and Ljudmila Pleve"
Thus, since Catherina was born in 1844 (1844 - 1735 = 109) it would appear there may be 4-5 generations separating Catherina from the first Helfenbeins to come to Russia.
Additional information from Ezra Buxman of Greeley, Colorado. Katerina Helfenbein with her parents, Fred and ? Helfenbein, moved to the state (province) of Samara, to the village of WiesenmFuller (about 35 miles from the Volga) while they were still young.
