    A Private Inurnment will be held for 86 year old Gale Steinhoff of Harlan in the Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla. Gale passed away on Thursday, April 12th, in Manilla. Survivors include: his wife, LaJean Mae Steinhoff of Harlan; 1 son, Rickey Steinhoff of Manilla; 1 daughter, Connie (Darwin) Campbell of Harlan; 2 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Leah Shearon of Sioux City. The Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements.

    Gale Casper Steinhoff, son of Casper Dale and Amanda (Weber) Steinhoff, was born July 14, 1931 in Smithland, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical Reform Church in German City Hornick, Iowa. He attended grade school and high school in Smithland, Iowa.
    On October 14, 1950, Gale was united in marriage to LaJean Mae Holmes in Manilla, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Connie, Gary and Rickey.
    They lived in Denver, Colorado for some time, where Gale worked as a Drill Press Operator for Gardener Denver Co. and later worked at Cherry Creek Greenhouse. In 1954, they moved back to Iowa and Gale started farming on the Hook farm. He purchased a farmstead west of Manilla in 1959 and remained there until 1996. Gale drove school bus for Manilla Community School for 13 years. He enjoyed volunteering where ever he was needed. Together, Gale and LaJean enjoyed traveling.
    He died on Thursday, April 12, 2018 attaining the age of eighty-six years, eight months and twenty-nine days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Gary at birth, grandson Shane Campbell. Sister Joy Archer, brothers-in-law Don Shearon, Ray Ferraro, and Tom Archer.
    He was left to cherish his memory, his wife of 67 years LaJean Steinhoff of Harlan, Iowa; daughter Connie and her husband Darwin Campbell of Harlan; son Rickey Steinhoff of Manilla, Iowa; 2 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister Leah Shearon of Sioux City, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.

    Casper Steinhoff, Sloan, Iowa, passed away at the Burgess Memorial Hospital at Onawa on December 23, 1972. He had reached the age of 74 years, 6 months and 20 days. He was born at Smithland, Iowa on June 3, 1898, the son of William and Elizabeth Steinhoff. On February 16, 1920 be was married to Amanda Weber at Hornick, Iowa.
    Mr. Steinhoff farmed in the Smithland area for many years before his retirement, moving to Sloan about 5 years ago. He was a member of the United Church of Christ of German City, Iowa.
    Survivors are his wife, Amanda, of Sloan; one son, Gale of Manilla, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Leah) Shearon of Sioux City, Iowa and Mrs. Ray (Joy) Ferraro of Reseda, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Edna Unkel of Hornick, Iowa; ten grandchildren and one great grandson.
    Services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday, December 26, 1972 at the Wood Funeral Chapel, Whiting, Iowa with the Rev. Martin Knudsen and the Rev. Henry Held officiating. The Hornick Men's Quartet, Jack Steinhoff, George Till, Gerald Beckstrom and Edgar Shupe, sang accompanied by Mrs. Katherine Cox. Casket bearers were Victor Weber, Clifton Weber, Merold Weber, Everett Steinhoff, Wayne Steinhoff and Ray Steinhoff. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa under the direction of the Wood Funeral Home of Whiting and Sloan.

    Amanda Anna Steinhoff, 91, Countryside Retirement Home, died Monday, May 11, 1992, at the nursing home after a brief illness.
    Services will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 p.m. today until service time at the funeral home.
    Mrs. Steinhoff, the former Amanda A. Weber, was born Feb. 16, 1901, in Hornick, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Christina A. (Rose) Weber. She married Casper Steinhoff Feb. 16, 1920, in Hornick. The couple farmed in the Smithland, Iowa, area for many years. He died Dec. 23, 1972. She moved to Sioux City in 1985.
    Mrs. Steinhoff was a member of the German City Church of Holly Springs, Iowa.
    Survivors include a son and his wife, Gale C. and La Jean Steinhoff of Manilla, Iowa; two daughters, Leah Shearon of Sioux City and Wilma Joy Archer of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; a brother, Oliver, and his wife, Cora Weber, of Hornick, Iowa; three sisters, Rosena Bowman of Sioux City, Mary Hanner of Sergeant Bluff, and Lorena Weimer of Lemon Grove, Calif.; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett, Clarence and Wilmer Weber; and two sisters, Lottie Lee and Hulda Weber.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Libbie Steinhoff were conducted Friday after noon at the German City church, Rev. W. W. Kramme officiating. Mrs. Steinhoff, who had been a resident of Smithland for nearly seventy-five years, passed away Wednesday, March 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Unkel, of near Smithland at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 13 days.
    Mrs. Steinhoff, nee Gambs, was born June 30, 1858, at Woodsfield, Ohio. She was baptized in infancy. During her early life, in the year 1865 her parents moved to Smithland where she resided the rest of her years. On April 14, 1884, she was united in Holy Wedlock to William Steinhoff. This union was blessed with four children. Mr. Steinhoff preceded her in death March 7, 1929.
    Mrs. Steinhoff enjoyed good health until recent years, when her physical strength began to wane. She was a faithful wife and mother, rearing her children in the fear of the Lord. She had always taken an active interest in the German City church and was one of its early members. Her interest in the Kingdom of God was ever evident by her whole hearted participation in the work of the church.
    She leaves to mourn her departure four children, Mrs. Vern Beebe of Flandreau, South Dakota, Mrs. John Unkel, Ralph and Casper Steinhoff, all of Smithland; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Hills of Chico, California; one brother, L.N. Gambs of Smithland, two daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, seventeen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
    Interment, under direction of Willman Funeral Home, was in the German City cemetery. Pall bearers were John Steinhoff, Jake Steinhoff, George Rose, Ed Rose, John Weber, and Will Steinhoff. Wilma Johnson, John H. Bale, and E. W. Persinger sang "Rock of Ages', "Jesus, Lover of My Soul", and "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me", accompanied by Miss Kate Kelsey at the piano.
    The many friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
